Mufti Qavi urges civil society to hold funeral in absentia for Qandeel Baloch

Mufti Abdul Qavi Sunday (today) urged civil society activists to organise absentee funeral prayers in Multan for Internet sensation Qandeel Baloch.
Mufti Abdul Qavi, who got suspended from Ruet-e-Hilal Committee membership after selfies with Qandeel Baloch generated a lot of controversies, said the murder of the model is a lesson for others.
While talking to a media Mufti Abdul Qavi said that those who want to humiliate clerics must learn from Qandeel Baloch’s fate. Those who have done so must repent and should ask forgiveness from clerics as well as Almighty Allah.
“I have forgiven Qandeel and have never had any hatred for her,” he added.
According to the reports, he also came to Multan especially for the purpose to lead Qandeel’s funeral prayers.
Mufti Abdul Qavi has been nominated in a FIR regarding Qandeel’s murder.
Earlier in June, Qandeel uploaded selfies on her Facebook and Twitter accounts with cleric Mufti Abdul Qavi, which went viral. The Facebook celebrity and Mufti Qavi made an unlikely pair, but that’s not the only reason why their selfies stirred up a storm. The photos made headlines when their ‘controversial’ nature led to Mufti Qavi’s suspension from the religious Ruet-e-Hilal Committee as well as the National Ulema Mushaikh Council. The Facebook star claimed the Mufti had contacted her numerous times and she met him at his request.

Giving his version of their meeting, he said, “She had first wanted to meet PTI chief Imran Khan and I said that I will arrange a meeting between her and Imran Khan.”
He further added, “I have sympathy for Qandeel because she had started fasting and had come towards religious teachings. She was learning Islamic teachings from me and I had shared Quranic verses with her as she had complained of bad omens and evil eyes of jealous people.”
Praising Qandeel, he said that she was the true face of the women of Pakistan despite her mistakes and that she was a brave lady. “I had convinced her to repent of her sins and asked her to come towards the right path. I had even offered her a marriage proposal.”
In a shocking turn of events, internet sensation Qandeel Baloch was shot dead at her residence in Multan, police said on Saturday.
According to reports, she was shot by her brother in an honour killing incident over her Facebook posts and videos.
Qandeel had earlier claimed she was receiving death threats and had sought security. However, following “no response” from the Interior Ministry on her application for getting personal security, social media starlet Qandeel was planning to settle abroad after Eidul Fitr, citing security threats in the backdrop of her scandal with Mufti Abdul Qawi as the reason.
